Our societies are ageing, and a rethink of current transport strategies is needed. New challenges will arise. Travel is good for older people, and it has to be facilitated.
In this video, based on a paper presented at the European Transport Conference 2018 (Dublin, Ireland), the following questions are addressed:

  • What are the transport needs and challenges for an ageing society? How is the mobility affected by the age? What are the new challenges?
  • What are the challenges for the railways’ companies and service providers to serve an ageing society? What have the railway undertakings and infrastructure managers to consider? Redesign the railway stations? Redesign the rolling stock, or provide new rolling stock to suit the new services to be offered?
